Yesterday was the 30th year of Sinulog celebration in Cebu City. The Sinulog 2010 officially started with Mañanita Mass at Basilica del Sto. Niño on 4:00 AM and followed by 6:00 AM – Pontifical mass with His Eminence Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal. The Sinulog 2010 Grand Parade Carousel kicked off on 9:00 AM, where different contingents; street dancers, float, and higantes were gathered in there designated base station.
We left our home from Liloan to Cebu City at around 9:00 AM but because of heavy traffic, rerouting, no entries and walking, we reached my parents house at around 11:00 AM. As part of the celebration, food and drinks were everywhere. We passed by a lot of food stalls but a lot of foods were in the “to be avoided” list given to me by my doctor.
When we arrived at my parents house, our neighbor cooked 2 lechons but I can’t help but only to look at the them as it is in the top “to be avoided” list. There was no lechon in my parents house because everyone knows I can’t eat such (for now) so they sympathized. There is only 1 fish cooked and intended for me, the rest of the food were pork and chicken – but all meat.
There were some rain showers in the past days and yesterday was not an exemption. We went to uptown area in Mango Avenue to watch the street dancing but stayed inside a mall because my 1-year old son slept. When we were about to go outside, more people were getting in the mall and when we reached the exit area that was the time we know that it was raining outside. We stayed back in. We stayed a couple of minutes and decided to go home and just watch the Sinulog on television.
When we disembarked from the jeepney, the rain was gone so we went on to watch the street dancing, this time near the University of San Carlos in P. del Rosario Street. My one year old child really enjoyed the beat of the drums. He even danced when the drums were rolling.
Time went by fast enough that it was time to go home. But before we went to Liloan, we ate dinner with barbecues on the table. But then again because I don’t have gallbladder anymore and the possibility that i have stone in the biliary duct as I need to go for an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) procedure, the “to be avoided” list is still warning me on the food to eat. I only looked on the chicken back with skin and pork with skin and fat. I only ate the all-meat pork barbecue.
The Sinulog feastival is really a great celebration but because I am now living without gallbladder, the “to be avoided” list blocks all food enjoyment.
Hopefully next year I can eat lechon, pork chop with fat and skin, chicken skin barbecue, sisig and the rest of the “to be avoided” list.
It was my second time in Cebu during the Sinulog Festival 🙂 I really loved it. We also tried Sunburst Chicken – and yes, I tried the chicken skin… but in moderation! I wish you luck with your health journey. Btw, Thanks for dropping by my blog! Hope you visit again soon.
